Lumecca’s targeted lights heat up the layer of tissue below the skin known as the dermis, which contains problematic pigment. That pigment is then forced to the surface of the skin, where it will darken and either flake off or be absorbed into the body.

What is Lumecca?
Lumecca is a highly effective intense pulsed light (IPL) device that treats unsightly blemishes and irregularities, improving the complexion and clarity of the skin.
Who is Lumecca for?
Lumecca is a non-invasive procedure that can address a variety of skin conditions, including:
- Broken capillaries
- Sun damage
- Enlarged pores
- Age spots
How does Lumecca IPL work?
Lumecca uses a precise microsurgery technique known as photothermolysis, which delivers a photofacial via bright, targeted lights. These lights heat up the layer of tissue below the skin known as the dermis, which contains problematic pigment. That pigment is then forced to the surface of the skin, where it will darken and either flake off or be absorbed into the body. The Lumecca lights also activate the skin’s collagen, which helps fill in gaps around your pores.
What happens during a Lumecca IPL procedure?
To begin, your specialist will clean the area designated for treatment and apply a cooling gel to your face. Next, you’ll be given dark glasses to protect your eyes from the lights of the Lumecca device. At this point, your specialist will begin treatment. Your session will last approximately 20 minutes and may produce a slight stinging sensation comparable to being snapped with a rubber band. Note that Lumecca IPL works significantly faster than other IPL procedures. While other forms of treatment require 6-8 visits to complete, Lumecca IPL can be completed in as little as 1-2 sessions.
What precautions do I need to take before my IPL procedure?
Avoid tanning 4 weeks prior to treatment. Tanned skin increases the risk of side effects and may force you to reschedule your appointment. In addition, abstain from waxing, chemical peels and collagen shots 2 weeks in advance, as these procedures can impact the success of your treatment. Finally, be sure to alert your doctor if you’ve taken any medication prior to your appointment. Drugs like Aspirin and Ibuprofen can increase the risk of bleeding during Lumecca IPL and should be avoided if possible.
What precautions should I take after my procedure?
Following treatment, you may feel a warm, sunburned like sensation on your face. This will likely dissipate within 4-6 hours and can be treated with an ice pack or washcloth. In addition, be sure to apply sunscreen daily for 6 weeks following treatment, reapplying ever 2 hours regardless of weather conditions.Call Us
