Resolution sweats got you down? Try these skincare routines for the gym!


Here is what you should do before and after your sweat sessions.

From new years resolutions to work out and get in shape to new year fitness deals…January should really be called gymuary! Now that we have committed to getting our bodies in shape, we need to make sure our skin does not suffer the consequences! Here are some pointers on how to keep your skin healthy after a workout.

No matter how much of a rush your in make sure to ALWAYS wash your face after a workout. It’s very important to gently clean your skin following a sweat session. This helps to remove bacteria and sweat residue that can accumulate during your workout. It’s also helpful to cool off the skin and prevent breaking of blood vessels as your skin returns to a normal temperature. Even a quick splash of cool water post-workout is a good practice to get into, and will help your complexion in the long run.

If you are able to skip the make-up before a workout- do it! As your body heats up during a workout, your pores open up… and you don’t want that makeup to settle back into the pores of your skin. When you’re working out, your skin should be able to breathe. If you’re pressed for time- look into make-up remover clothes and a quick cool rinse! Trust us, your skin will thank you!

Another trusty pointer is try to always keep your hair off your face! If you have longer hair ― this goes for both men and women ― it’s best to keep it pulled back and away from your face and skin during a workout. This will help prevent oils, or residual hair product from clogging your pores and will help prevent the dreaded breakouts!
While you are keeping your hair back–remember to also keep your hands away from the skin on your face as well! Gyms are already full of germs and other people’s sweat-which should be enough to convince you not to touch your face when you’re at the gym… but in cold and flu season this is even more important! Aside from the bacteria you can transfer from your hands to your skin- there is the threat of virus and fungus! We recommend keeping a bottle of hand sanitizer handy- pun intended!
